THE PAST AND THE FUTURE

The past and the future
are all linked together.
If we understand the past,
we are more likely to recognize

what is happening around us.

The past is for us;
a place that is not safely settled.

So often,
all we'd ever wanted was to forget.
but even when we thought we had,
pieces had kept emerging,
like bits of wood
floating up to the surface
that only hint at the shipwreck below.

No matter how much time has passed,
these things still affect us
and the world we live in.
